What is bluetooth?
Bluetooth is a way for electronic devices to connect wirelessly. Most modern mobile phones support bluetooth.
Can I use bluetooth with my PC?
Most modern laptops now ship with Bluetooth support, and some desktop PCs. However desktops and laptops
that don't have Bluetooth as standard can add bluetooth support through a simple and cheap adapter (or dongle).
Which Bluetooth devices do Devlex's products support?
We aim to support all PC bluetooth devices.
We accomplish this by supporting a combination of direct access to the most
common bluetooth stacks and also providing Bluetooth Serial Port support for
the less common Bluetooth stacks. This approach allows us to try to support all PC
bluetooth stacks.
Why support 2 different connection methods?
We can achieve greater functionality by accessing a Bluetooth stack
directly, for example when using PhoneTunes through a native stack we can
support multiple phones selecting music at the same time.
In addition, directly accessing the Bluetooth stack removes the need for any
user configuration.
Which Bluetooth stacks are supported directly?
We currently have native support for the WidComm, Toshiba and Microsoft
Bluetooth stacks. The Microsoft stack is only available on Windows XP Service
Pack 2 and later.
Is my PC's Bluetooth stack supported directly?
Open the PC application, if there is a Serial Port configuration
box we don't have native support for your PC's Bluetooth stack.
To check connectivity support for individual products, refer to our Connectivity page.
How do I find out which Bluetooth Serial port to use?
This varies between Bluetooth devices. In general looking through
the Bluetooth application in your PC's system tray will reveal which Serial
port to use.
If in doubt, try all the available serial ports one at a time from the
PC application until the phone app works. Once a serial port has
been configured it is unlikley to change.
Does my device need to be Discoverable?
The phone does not need to be set to Discoverable. The PC only
needs to be Discoverable whilst the phone is selecting which PC to use.
